The first thing I noticed when we arrived home tonight was how quiet it appeared. Our Maine house has been alive this November with laughter, good stories, festive foods and drinks, paint, a very sticky little boy and a lot of love for eight days. At first, as the holiday approached and our families began to gather to plan this new Thanksgiving tradition, there was concern. . . would the quarters be too tight? Would we get in each others way? Would we run out of things to say? Is eight days too long? My beautiful aha moment came when I returned home tonight and had the luxury to reflect on our visit. It was honestly everything I had hoped for and more. Letting go of the anxiety surrounding how to make it perfect and recognizing what fulfills me within our family was a gift. And while Thanksgiving is the one holiday that brings family together without the pressure of gift giving or expecting anything in return, I am so grateful for the gift of time that I spent wisely enjoying my mom, dad, Clay, Butch, Brendan and Griffin instead of trying to anticipate how to please their personalities. Both Brendan and my families have supported us through some rough roads the past two years and being in Maine this time of year, surrounded by the sea, we found ourselves back to just being a family again. For that I am forever grateful.
The many other Maine memories that will continue to warm my heart this winter. . .
Spotting Santa outside L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine upon our arrival. Griffin couldn’t contain his excitement and neither could we!
Martha Stewart of Maine! Dear friend Carol Hamm invited us to a pre-Thanksgiving feast at her gorgeous home that was generous, glamorous and glorious! We were dazzled by robust red wines, a delicious pork roast and beautiful table top fit for the finest foodies. . . and Foodys.
All in good fun we had such a ball with so many wonderful family and friends we are so thankful to all! I am so very grateful for all the many gifts and blessings this time of year and wish you all a holiday full of warmth, family and good cheer Dears!
I leave you with the stunning sunset as seen on Sawyers Island.
